A group of academics from Salford University tried to determine what makes a sound unpleasant by conducting a sound psychology experiment. Even though the experimental data collection phase is over, the experiment is still available online – so try it for fun and compare your tastes to others.
The site also offers a mixer to play with, and if you want to torment your friends, some sounds are available as free ringtones.
