They study how the cells designed to protect humans against infections work. To develop a vaccine against a specific disease, these scientists have to find out how to trigger these protective cells to work before we get infected. A vaccine teaches our bodies to recognise disease-producing microbes.
If you’re curious by nature, have a critical mind and enjoy interacting with people, you’re perfect for the job, or almost… you’d still need to complete your BSc and attain a BSc Honours in Medical Cell Biology or Immunology.
In the meanwhile, be sure to include Biology, Mathematics and Physical Science in your school subjects.
