Are you interested in a hot job in a really explosive field? Forgive us our horrible puns, but volcanology rocks! A volcanologist, as you can probably guess from the name, studies the formation of volcanoes, as well as their eruptions.
Our favourite part about the job is that volcanologists often get to visit volcanoes, especially active ones, to observe eruptions. How hot is that? The main thing that volcanologists are trying to do is work out how to predict eruptions. At the moment, there isn’t a reliable way to do this.
Since millions of people live near active volcanoes, predicting an eruption could save many lives. Now that would be pretty earth-shattering!
