Weird Word: Pseudocide

You know how people in movies or books fake their own deaths for insurance or tax evasion purposes, or to throw off the bad guys, or to fool the good guys, or whatever? Well, apparently that happens in real life, too, and it's called pseudocide ("false death", from Latin). In real life, it's mostly about insurance fraud, and it's rather illegal.

It's surprisingly common - fake drownings are the usual way, because that helps explain the lack of a body - and there are actually websites that instruct you in how to pull off your own pseudocide.

It's kind of a mean thing to do to your friends and family, though (and illegal, remember), so give it a miss, okay?
