Riddle me this: The elevator ride

Yes, we know, we know, it's weekend. But that's no excuse to send your brain into hibernation! So here's a classic lateral thinking puzzle to keep your grey matter pumping for Monday...

A man lives on the top floor of a very tall building (the kind that King Kong likes to climb). Every day he takes the elevator down to the ground floor and leaves the building to go to work. When he returns from work in the afternoon, though, he only travels halfway up in the lift and then has to walk all the rest of the way...unless it's raining, in which case he can ride the elevator all the way to the top.

What's up with that?

Give up? Here's our answer: The man is very, very short and can only reach halfway up the elevator buttons. But when it's raining, he takes his umbrella to work - so he can use it to press the higher buttons. Simple, right? But if you can think of any other answers, let us know!
