Horticulturists work to conserve natural resources and beautify the environment by planting, fertilising, tending and sometimes harvesting flowers, shrubs and other plant life (Serious green fingers needed here!)
They work indoors in greenhouses and hydroponics gardens (gardens where plants are grown using mineral nutrient solutions instead of soil), as well as outdoors in parks, flower farms and orchards. Some scientists choose to work for agricultural research institutes where they conduct research on vegetables, fruit, flowers and grape and wine preparation in different rainfall regions.
If you’re keen to help change, beautify and conserve the environment you must (needless to say!) love the environment, be creative and have technical ability. You’d also need a relevant degree/diploma in horticulture.
