Homeostasis is when all of the body's functions are in balance. The body compensates for any disruptions by going back to a state of equilibrium.
A good example would be the tendency of a fit person’s heart rate to fall back to normal after vigorous exercise. Immediately after you stop exercising, homeostasis kicks in – your body demands less oxygen and your heart rate drops back to resting rate.
Without homeostasis, our bodies won’t be able to regulate themselves and life wouldn’t be possible.
